Danny’s Childhood Scrapbook I've always liked dressing up. This is me at about age two wearing a straw hat from Hannibal, MO. Our cat is not sure if he likes imaginary tea. I've always loved animals. Sadly, I'm highly allergic to cats. The first dog I ever had, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a good friend. He disappeared one night and came back 24 hours later with a bunch of other dogs. I guess they had gone on a dog adventure. This is me at age 6. Mr. Snazzy Bowtie. The nerd family. I'm holding a book. I think it's about fossils. Happy kid. Around 3rd grade, I think. My first bicycle. It was purple. Prince would have loved it. My 5th grade class with Mrs. Hoeft. I'm in the back wearing a red and white striped shirt. I still keep in touch with some of these folks, and also Mrs. Hoeft. In 5th grade, narrating a modern dance production of Journey to the Centre of the Earth with music by Rick Wakeman (keyboardist for Yes). I got to read the Richard Burton narration. Halloween photo with my little brother (Dracula) and my friends, Jeff and Jimmy. I'm the witch doctor. A letter to the tooth fairy. I hope my teeth never look like these. 1st half of family portrait. I love my dad's stilt-like legs. 2nd half of family portrait self portrait, age 5 I wrote this Halloween poem in 4th or 5th grade. Recently, I used the words as lyrics in my "Trick or Treat on Monster Street" stage play. So my young self and my old self wrote a song together! I made this comic about a dog and cat superhero somewhere around 7th grade. I used to love Micronaut toys. This was my idea for a space hero. I was drum major for my high school band. Our team was called The Chiefs. Many of my closest friends today are from band. I loved drawing spaceships in 7th grade. My friend Patrick Norton was an expert and I learned a lot from watching him draw. Patrick and I are still friends. In high school and college, on summer and winter breaks, I worked at Busch Gardens as a captain/narrator on the African Queen Boat Ride. Unlike the Jungle Cruise at Disney World, this ride featured real animals like rhinos, spider monkeys, crocodiles, caiman, and crowned cranes. Real macaws rode on the back of each boat. My wonderful 5th grade teacher Mrs. Hoeft. This photo was taken when I went to Carrollwood Elementary to present as an author.
